Highlights from the Critical Alternatives Conference

The week from the 17th to 21st of August witnessed thought provoking workshops, paper presentations, panels, conversations and demos as part of the 5th decennial Aarhus conference, which took place in and around the Peter Bøgh Andersen auditorium.

The opening keynote given by Dmytri Kleiner and Baruch Gottlieb of Telekommunisten (http://telekommunisten.net) set the tone for the whole conference, which was very politically engaged - not what one usually finds at conferences dealing with Human Computer Interaction and information technologies. We also had around 200 participants from around the world, who engaged in critical debate around the pressing challenges our world is facing, as they are reflected in the state of information technologies and our relationship to them.

The next Aarhus conference will take place in 2025, continuing the tradition of opening up a much needed space for critically engaged thinking about information technology every 10 years.
