Recomposing the Web: Writing Software to Investigate Software
This workshop/discussion will focus on methods for manipulating existing web-based software systems as a way of understanding their cultural effects. Drawing inspiration from works of net art, tactical media, and hacktivism, participants will discuss strategies and write code to change how today's websites look and what they afford. By adding to, subtracting from, and mashing together these systems, such code will enable investigations that reveal how software changes who we are and what do.

Cultural Collections in Digital Space – Opportunities for Visualization & Interface Design
This workshop/hands-on discussion will focus on visualization and interface design methods for transforming cultural collections (e.g., collections of print artifacts, paintings, photographs, sculptures, or video archives) into digital space, enabling large-scale analysis and exploration while providing access to their unique, visual, physical, and material characteristics. Based on example collections participants will critically discuss, brainstorm, and sketch opportunities for visualization and interface design.
